John has served as chairman of a number of committees, including TAPC, an influential committee that represents local and Town councils throughout the district. He was Chairman of the Birchington Village Partnership, a muliti-sector group that included local business owners, public sector workers, councillors and clergy. He has also been a member of the Joint Transportation Board, and is currently a member of the Licensing Board and the General Purpose Committee.
Elections
John is known for being a hard working election campaigner; he hit the top of the polls in the parish election of 2007, and more recently in the District Council election of 2011. As an election coordinator for Roger Gale MP, in the 2010 general election, he led a young team of enthusiastic activists that played a key role in increasing Roger’s majority.
An experienced activist and event organizer
In November 2007, he organized a protest to save one of Birchington’s local Post Offices; in April 2009 he played a key role in the successful campaign to stop an unwanted amusement arcade from opening in the Village. He helped to organize a number of events, including Minnis Bay Live, a family event that helped to buy a special car for a little boy called Ralph, who depends on life saving equipment, thus needed the vehicle as a safe form of transportation.
